Sylvia McEwan:

After seeing Rothko's piece and having the inspiration to create a series of pink paintings formulating a specific aesthetic, i discovered artist Sylvia McEwan who has a similar style to Rothko by filling a canvas area with a millennial  colour then adds to this base with figurative etchings as shown above. The etchings aren't specifically of anything that i can see, they are a series of lines that could represent an erratic feeling when they were placed on the piece. Some lines are bold and dominate the majority of the canvas, others have been painted over and there is a red scrawl in the center of the piece which suggests to me the artist is expressing pain. This makes the pieces passionate and raw which is the direction i want my work to go in.
