after taking a break from paint i wanted to get back into it but with a looser approach to totally contrast the photography aspect to my project. Over all my project is about 'identity' and through the photography i can express physical identity easily through portrait photography and association with the subject like settings and props. I am broadening my project from self identity to general identity. i feel these two paintings are quite successful for the style i was going for. Working on a log was quite challenging as the surface already had movement about it so it was hard getting the proportions right however i like how the surface flows with the shape of the hand it really makes the work 3D. The figure painting was a quick experiment with fast brush strokes and it has brought about the idea of horizontal brush strokes to give the piece a possible deeper meaning which i intend to take further.
