paul nash exhibition

It was really interesting seeing Paul Nash's work in person because his worked changed over time, it's like he went through phases. there were his drawings of landscapes which moved to quite fragmented war art and then very surrealist painting. Honestly, some pieces i wasn't fussed on but there were some i really loved. For me, his black and white ink studies, specifically 'The Pyramids in the Sea' was my favourite piece in the whole exhibition, the mark making and chiaroscuro in it just spoke volumes and the small moon crescent and tiny stars solidified the composition brilliantly. Aside from this i also really liked 'Equivalents for the Megaliths' because it's obviously a landscape but Nash has implicated the modern art twist by adding these forms to the composition. Also, the palette he's used is really stripped back and consists of neutral colours which makes the red lines stand out.
