ART 200:Harley Weir

Weir is a photographer who's work is focused on youth culture and is very fashion orientated. Her recent project with Harry Styles has proved she challenges traditional stereotypes of female and male gender types, positioning him in traditional female poses and immersing him in water. She likes to get close with her subject and take delicate intimate shots that expose a lot about the subject “People usually take pictures from a distance. That’s not my point of view,”. Her pieces have a specific colour hue to them, red and purple undertones to express the passion of her work as well as a lot of darkness within the space to emphasise perhaps her seriousness in conveying what needs to be conveyed.

Weir is fascinated by human form and parts that make up the human form as well as nature and movement. Flowers and petals are present in her pieces, sometimes naturally and often deliberately placed to show the femininity and also the concept of life and the natural world.
