ELIZABETH PEYTON
Elizabeth Peyton paints celebrities and this is the subject matter I am focusing on for my project. Her paintings are on a small scale (usually around 40 x 50 cm). These small scale paintings have inspired me to start off my project with initial smaller paintings and studies. Peyton also likes to focus on brush strokes in her work as they 'portray the emotion' of the subject.
COLIN DAVIDSON
Colin Davidson is a contemporary painter. His work immediately appeals to me because I can recognise the people he has painted (again celebrities) . The portraits have immense detail towards the centre of the face and as he paints outwards the detail gets more loose and expressive adding an individual touch to the studies, I like this way of painting - mixing both realism and expressionism. Davidson works on a larger scale which is something i will consider for my project as it will allow more colours to be used and more things to happen within the composition.
CASEY BAUGH
Casey Baugh specialises in charcoal studies and oil paintings. His charcoal studies really grip the viewer because they are so atmospheric and he makes the viewers question the narrative behind the figure as well as just appreciating the figure within the piece, he tells stories through his artwork. His paintings are equally as dramatic but aren't as focused on facial portraiture which is why i am more interested in his charcoal work.
