Petworth House

On a trip down to Sussex in September, i went to Petworth House, I particularly liked seeing Thomas Philips pieces because the entire canvas maintains the same level of detail and there is just as much focus on the background as there is on the figure in the foreground. I was also lucky enough to see a Turner painting first hand and was astonished by how atmospheric and attentive in detail it was. I was surprised at the painting of 'Chichester Canal' c.1829 as to me, it had a real sketchy feel to it rather than an oily, well blended feel which i found interesting considering he was a Romantic painter.
